Large-scale digital twin of Medellín city

Share

Share | 12/28/2022

Medellín is Colombia’s second most populous city after Bogotá, the capital, with a population of 2.5 million.

The drone engineering consulting Jab Visual recently made a digital twin of 18,000 ha / 44,480 ac of the city with the eBee X drone and the S.O.D.A. 3D camera for the Municipality. They obtained high-accurate 3D models and orthomosaics of 47% of Medellín.

Main applications:

  • Update cadastral maps of the city
  • Urban and rural classification
  • Maps of hard-to-reach sites
  • Monitoring construction sites

 Results:

  • Up-to-date city maps which are easy to visualize with 3D spatial information.
  • Safe flights near the airport with the eBee X drone and its Ping USB for airspace awareness.
  • Digital twin of 47% of Medellín.
  • Identify available land for construction.
  • Compare and monitor changes in a new construction zone near the airport.
  • Remotely map unsafe areas by drone, without accessing the site.
  • Safe flights over people with the eBee X drone.

*Please note that, due to the large scale of the project, the dataset contains only a fraction of the entire data.
